TACOMA, Wash - Nov. 13, 2012 -- "Dawn's Early Light" -- a photograph of the Port of Tacoma with Mount Rainier as the backdrop -- shared 1st place honors in a Best of the Northwest art competition.

The image, taken by renowned fine art and portrait photographer Sean Griffin, shared top honors with a photograph of the Edmonds Marina taken by Edmonds photographer Eddie Eastwood. Griffin, a former Tacoma resident, lives in Yelm.

The competition, sponsored by FineArt America, drew 289 entries from 110 artists. Voting was online and open to the public, and took place between Nov 3, and Nov. 11.

"Like many photographers in this digital age, I snap a lot of photographs, and sometimes your prizewinners get buried among the multitudes."
